Career and experience:

Having qualified in Bristol in 1997, Mr Mutimer worked in Manly, Australia, and spent time teaching anatomy to medical students at Oxford, UK. He started his surgical training in Bath and completed his specialist orthopaedic training in Bristol and the South West.

He was awarded a fellowship in January 2008 to work in Wellington, New Zealand, with Professor Geoff Horne and Peter Devane, and undertook a hip and knee arthroplasty fellowship. As well as performing complex hip and knee replacements (primary and revision) Mr Mutimer had the opportunity to research methods to improve the longevity of hip replacements by monitoring wear after implantation.

Mr Mutimer is an established consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Cheltenham General Hospital, with a specialist interest in hip and knee arthroplasty, using the most up-to-date equipment and techniques.

He is the Orthopaedic Clinical Director at Glos Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust responsible for providing high quality planned care. He has an active interest in training junior doctors and is the Training Programme Director for core surgical trainees in the Severn Deanery. He is involved in the National Joint Registry and sits on committees monitoring implant selection and performance. He is also the Medical Advisory

Committee chair at the Cheltenham, Nuffield Hospital overseeing governance and medical issues.

He is married to Sophie, a heart failure nurse, and has 2 children who are growing up far too fast.
